Andrés Fernando Guzmán, D.Eng., F.ASCE, who has dedicated his life to advancing civil engineering through leadership, mentorship, and human values as president of the ASCE Colombia Section, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Guzmán has strengthened collaboration among academia, industry, and professional societies, promoting a unified vision centered on ethics, sustainability, and the education of future generations. As FA of the ASCE and ACI Student Chapters at Universidad del Norte, he has guided students through technical and community projects, cultivating professionals who understand engineering as a service to society. Supported by ASCE’s Cities of the Future Grant (2024–present), he launched Engineering Clubs in local schools, inspiring curiosity and civic awareness among youth.

Alongside his academic leadership, Guzmán has contributed to emblematic projects such as the Fábrica de Cultura in Barranquilla, the ISO 17025 accreditation of Universidad del Norte’s Materials and Geotechnics Laboratory, and the patenting of the Tensilecre device, advancing research and innovation in structural materials.

He believes that an engineer’s true legacy is built not only through structures and discoveries but through the lives strengthened and inspired along the way.
