Yovanni Cataño-Lopera, Ph.D., P.E., PMP, CFM, D.WRE, F.ASCE, a civil engineer, researcher, and expert in computational fluid dynamics, hydraulics, sediment transport, coastal processes, and water resources engineering, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Cataño-Lopera possesses over 22 years of professional experience. He works with Woolpert Inc., serving as the firm’s coastal and advanced hydraulics practice leader. He also serves as vice chair of the ASCE EWRI Computational Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee. He is an active member of the Society’s Computational Hydraulics Technical Committee, the ASCE Illinois COPRI Committee, the ASCE EWRI ML/AI Task Committee, and the Northeast Florida Regional Council Compound Flooding SME Team.
He is a leader in the development of complex multiphysics CFD models. His work primarily optimizes water/wastewater treatment facilities, collection systems, and river/reservoir infrastructures.
Cataño-Lopera formerly served as a visiting research assistant professor and research engineer at the Ven Te Chow Hydrosystems Laboratory within the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
