ASCE has honored Jie Qin, Ph.D., Huimin Ding, and Teng Wu with the 2026 J.C. Stevens Award for writing Discussion of “Mixed Velocity Scale for Predicting Bed-Material Sediment Discharges in Open Channel Flows,” Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, March 2025.
The authors discuss a paper in which a new velocity scale is proposed to compute sediment-transport rates. The piece compares the developed formulas with those by both Paintal and Engelund and concludes that the proposed formula in the original paper possesses better prediction capabilities, enhancing its validity.
