How to start a Younger Member Group

This process is for groups looking to form in ASCE's regions 1-9 if you are not in one of those regions, reach out to Younger Member Programs to learn how to start a group.

  1. Submit a Statement of Intent
    1. To get started, complete the Statement of Intent document (docx.) and submit through the form below. Once submitted an ASCE staff member will contact you with next steps and assist you with any questions you may have.
  2. Draft bylaws for your new Younger Member Group
    1. Using the bylaws template (docx.) as reference, you will need to create your own bylaws for your new group.
    2. Once you feel they are complete, you will need to have the bylaws approved by your Section.
    3. Then the document can be forwarded to ASCE Younger Member Programs for review by ASCE’s legal counsel; suggestions for edits may be expected.
    4. After any/all revisions, the final version will need to be accepted by your Section leadership.
  3. Create your new ASCE Younger Member Group logo
    1. Once your bylaws are approved and accepted by ASCE Headquarters and your Section leadership, your new group logo will be created. ASCE Younger Member Programs will initiate this process with the Branding Team to add the new logo to the Branding Toolkit. The logo is ready for use once listed.
  4. Displaying your Younger Member Group online
    1. Your group name and leaders will be listed on Find a Younger Member Group page and within it's Regions section of ASCE’s website. You can also be listed on your Section’s website, or maintain you own site separately. This will increase your group’s visibility and can be used to promote activities and be a beacon for potential new members.
  5. Submit an annual report for your Younger Member Group
    1. Every official ASCE group must submit an Annual Report each year to provide a summary of activity, membership, and leadership. This gives ASCE a glimpse of your needs and performance and allows us to provide assistance when indicated by feedback.

Note: New groups are expected to submit an annual report within one year of formation.
