Innovation Opportunities in Hydrology

Hydrologic science and engineering are experiencing a period of rapid transformation driven by innovations in statistical hydrology, remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), physically based hydrologic modeling, and advanced computational techniques. The emergence of machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and artificial intelligence (AI) has created new opportunities to extract valuable insights from large and complex hydrologic datasets, improving the understanding, simulation, and prediction of hydrologic processes. Advances in statistical, entropy-based, and copula-based methods have further enhanced the analysis of uncertainty, multivariate dependence, and hydrologic extremes, enabling more robust assessments of floods, droughts, and water resource variability.
This symposium focuses on emerging innovation opportunities that are reshaping hydrologic research and practice through the integration of physics-based models, statistical methods, geospatial technologies, and data-driven approaches.
