Purpose and Background
This presentation was recorded at the ASCE Construction Institute Summit 2025.
This course explores the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and construction dispute resolution. The session examines how AI is currently used in legal discovery, scheduling, document analysis, and predictive modeling in construction claims. Through real-world examples and case studies, the course highlights the benefits, limitations, and ethical considerations of incorporating AI into dispute workflows. Attendees will gain insight into how AI tools like document review platforms, schedule analysis scripts, and cost estimation models can improve efficiency and decision-making. The course also addresses data security, accountability, and professional standards in the age of AI. Whether you're new to AI or already exploring its potential, this session offers valuable guidance on using it as a practical tool—not a replacement—for expert judgment in construction disputes.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the current applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in construction dispute resolution and legal discovery processes.
- List the common AI tools and platforms used in the construction and legal industries for tasks like e-discovery, document review, and schedule analysis.
- Identify the potential benefits and risks associated with integrating AI into construction claims analysis, including issues of data security and trust.
- Discuss the ethical and professional guidelines set by engineering and legal organizations regarding the use of AI in decision-making processes.
- Explain how AI can assist professionals in streamlining tasks such as document summarization, schedule modeling, and valuation in the context of construction disputes.
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-test assessment (true-false, multiple choice, and/or fill in the blank questions).

How to Earn Your CEU/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
This course is worth 0.1 CEU/1 PDH. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 365 days of course purchase.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
