Greater China Section (2019)

The ASCE Greater China Section was established on November 5, 2019 and it represents ASCE members from China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

It was formed on the strong basis of the former ASCE Hong Kong Section (established in 1998) and the former ASCE Taiwan Group (established in 2003). The ASCE Greater China Section is registered with the Hong Kong Government Licensing Office under the Business Registration Ordinance and had its inauguration ceremony on November 21, 2020.

The purpose of ASCE sections is to provide local engagement for ASCE members through meetings, guest speakers, networking, professional development at all career stages, technical content, event notices and resource information, support to ASCE Student Members and their transition to professional membership. Successful operation under the leadership of Section Officers relies on the efforts and engagement in activities by all Section members

2026 Greater China ASCE Student Symposium, Hangzhou, China

Students from eight university ASCE chapters across Greater China gathered at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou for the 2026 Greater China ASCE Student Symposium. Attendees included Region 10 Immediate Past Director April Lander and Greater China Section President Hao Jiang. Tongji University won the concrete canoe competition, Zhejiang University earned first place in sustainable solutions, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University won the best symposium paper competition. The winning teams are eligible to compete at the 2026 ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships in West Virginia, USA.

3rd Greater China Conference

ASCE Greater China Section and host Guangxi University held the 3rd Greater China Conference in Nanning, Guangxi, China, January 10-13, 2025. Theme of the conference was "Technological Innovation and Sustainable Development of Civil Engineering". Program had 15 keynote speeches by top international scholars, engineering authorities, and ASCE leadership: President Feniosky Pena-Mora (virtual), Region 10 Director April Lander, R10 Governors Kamal Laksiri and Chao Li, and Section leadership. Program included a visit to the Pinglu Canal Century Project, under construction.
