This course is part of the package An Introduction to Performance Based Design Principles and Uses – Series 1 (OTIIPBPKG). If you are interested in purchasing the package, please visit the product page to learn more.

This webinar is sponsored by The Advancement of Performance Based Design Committee and the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI).

INSTRUCTOR:
Kevin Aswegan, PE, SE, F.SEI

Purpose and Background

This session will present the principles of Performance-Based Design (PBD). It will serve as an introduction to the subsequent sessions on specific hazards (e.g. seismic) by providing an overview of the general Performance-Based Design process. The session will address performance targets, service life, hazards/loading, target reliability, acceptance criteria, methods to meet the acceptance criteria, peer view, and high-level PBD examples. Attendees of the session will take away a broad understanding of the "why" and "how" of PBD.

Benefits and Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the overall process for Performance-Based Design
  • Identify relative pros and cons of Performance-Based Design
  • Identify potential applications of Performance-Based Design in real world environments

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes are assessed and achieved through passing a 10 multiple-choice question post-test with at least a 70%.

Who Should Attend?

  • Early Career Professionals
  • Structural Engineers
  • Civil Engineers
  • Architects
  • Risk & Resilience Consultants
  • Construction/Project Managers

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion

To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 1 year of course purchase.

How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?

1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
