Purpose and Background
This session will provide attendees with the latest advances in the industry and academia centered on sustainability practices in geotechnical engineering. Topics include: The Reuse of Foundations: A simple matter of using an asset you have; The use of 100% Recycled Plastics for Infrastructure Projects in conjunction with Low-Density Cellular Concrete (LDCC); Biopolymers as a sustainable solution for the enhancement of soil properties; Bridge Deicing in Texas Using Shallow Geothermal Energy; AND Engineering a Greener Future: Harnessing the Power of Geosynthetics for Sustainable Solutions. Valuable perspectives and findings from both industry and academia will be represented in this session. These lectures will be mainly delivered by members of the Geo-Institute’s Sustainability in Geotechnical Engineering committee, to strengthen the attendees’ confidence in existing sustainability practices and technologies and showcase the latest techniques developed to advance effective and environmentally friendly geotechnical practices.
