We at COPRI are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Scott C. Hagen, Ph.D., P.E., D.CE, F.ASCE. Scott was an active member of the institute, along with his successful career in the field of coastal engineering.
Scott’s work with COPRI included serving as Treasurer on our Governing Board from February 2009 to September 2014. Scott was a founding member and Chair of the Coastal Engineering Sciences Committee, where he served from September 2008 to September 2012. He continued with that committee as Past-President until September 2017. Scott was also a dedicated faculty advisor to the COPRI Louisiana State University Student Chapter, which he helped found in September 2015. In 2014, he was elected a Fellow of ASCE.
Throughout his career, Scott contributed greatly to coastal modeling and the engineering and science that it enables. He was a strong advocate for science to advance coastal resilience, a proud mentor for his students, a gracious colleague, and a friend to many.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Scott’s family asks that donations be made to www.upstateforever.org or an environmental group of your choice.
