Purpose and Background
This session will cover the principles of Performance-Based Seismic Design (PBSD), which is the state-of-the-art seismic design method allowing for creative and innovative designs which meet the intent of the building code. It will serve as an introduction to PBSD by providing an overview of the design process, covering seismic-specific performance targets, hazards, target reliability, acceptance criteria, methods to meet the acceptance criteria, peer review, and high-level PBSD examples.
