COPRI Governing Board
COPRI Board of Governors
The ASCE Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI) is governed by a seven‑member Board of Governors. The Board includes one Governor representing each of COPRI’s four primary disciplines: coasts, oceans, ports, and rivers/waterways, plus an additional discipline‑selected Governor from the same discipline as the Past President. In addition, one Governor is appointed by the Board to serve as Treasurer, and one Governor is appointed by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Meet COPRI's leadership below and hear from the 2025-2026 President and Vice President!

"I’m honored to step into the role of President of ASCE’s Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI), following the exceptional leadership of Norma Jean Mattei. Throughout her tenure, Norma Jean has exemplified steady, inclusive, and visionary leadership guiding COPRI through a period of growth and evolution while ensuring that our community remains grounded in service, science, and shared purpose. She has helped shape COPRI into the vibrant, engaged, and future-focused institute it is today, and I’m deeply grateful for her mentorship and continued involvement as we move forward.
As we look ahead, COPRI continues to play a critical role in advancing the future of water and coastal infrastructure. We stand at the intersection of engineering, environmental stewardship, and societal resilience where technical excellence must meet the growing demands of a changing world. From increasing coastal vulnerability due to sea level rise and extreme weather, to the acceleration of offshore energy, to the need for sustainable waterway modernization—our field is being called to lead."

"I am honored to serve as the Coastal Representative and incoming Vice-President on the COPRI Governing Board. Our coastal communities are vital economic drivers and locations where we love to live, work, and play. Coastal engineers work to make our communities more resilient as these areas continue to face increasing challenges due to sea level rise, changing weather patterns, aging infrastructure, and population dynamics. I look forward to continuing to work with professionals in the coasts, oceans, ports, and riverine industry to advance interdisciplinary technical knowledge, workforce development, and policy goals that help our communities."
