Chandra R. Bhat, Ph.D., M.ASCE has been elected to T&DI's Board of Governors for a 4-year term of office, effective October 1, 2020. In his first year on the Board of Governors, Dr. Bhat will serve as the Treasurer. His term as T&DI's President will begin on October 1, 2023.

Dr. Bhat is the Director of the Center for Transportation Research (CTR) and the Adnan Abou-Ayyash Centennial Professor in Transportation Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He has a joint appointment between the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) and the Department of Economics at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Bhat is the Joe J. King Chair in Engineering and current Director of the Data-Supported Transportation Operations and Planning (D-STOP) Tier 1 USDOT University Transportation Center. He is a world-renowned expert in the area of transportation and urban policy design, with far reaching implications for public health, energy dependence, greenhouse gas emissions, and societal quality of life. Methodologically, he has been a pioneer in the formulation and use of statistical and econometric methods to analyze human choice behavior. His current research includes the social and environmental aspects of transportation, safety and planning implications of connected and automated smart transportation systems (CASTS), and data science and predictive analytics.  Dr. Bhat currently serves on T&DI's Board of Governors as ASCE President's appointee. He also serves on T&DI's CAV Impacts Committee, and is the Chair of ASCE's 2021 International Conference on Transportation & Development.
