T&DI was created by the ASCE Board of Direction to help meet the technical needs of the Society’s members whose practice is focused in the areas of transportation engineering and land planning and development. T&DI began operation on October 1, 2002 as ASCE’s 7th technical specialty institute.
T&DI consists of Society members and institute-only members of T&DI who volunteer their services to advance the technical aspects of the civil engineering profession. Global membership consists of transportation and development professionals from the public, private, and academic sectors, along with student enrolled in transportation engineering programs around the world.
As new developments occur in research and practice, T&DI’s Committees and Councils bring the information to the membership through conferences and workshops as well as by publications. Publications such as manuals of practice, pre-standards, standards, journal articles, and policy recommendations help create knowledge of practice for the civil engineering profession.
