The ASCE Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) is seeking potential candidates for the FY27 Board of Governors.
4-year elected position
This position is elected by T&DI members. The Governors are expected to participate in monthly board meetings, two face-to-face meetings annually, and monthly teleconferences. Face-to-face meetings generally last 1.5 days, and teleconferences typically last no more than 90 minutes.
In the first year, the governor acts as the Institute's treasurer, working with the Institute Director on the following fiscal year's budget and reporting financials at Board of Governors meetings. The treasurer also serves on the awards and conference committees. In the second year, the governor acts as the Institute's Vice President, serving as one of T&DI's two delegates to the Technical Region Board of Governors and the Conference Committee. In the third year, the G]governor serves as T&DI's President, chairing the Board meetings, serving as the senior T&DI delegate to the Technical Region Board of Governors, and serving on the Nominating Committee.
In the fourth year, the governor becomes the Institute's Past President and serves on the awards and nominating committees while acting as a liaison to one of T&DI's technical councils. The expected time commitment is approximately 10 hours per month, with increased responsibility during the presidential year. Travel for authorized T&DI business is reimbursed in accordance with T&DI policy.
2-Year appointed position
The appointed governor is selected by the Board of Governors and serves as a voting member of the board and liaison to one of the technical councils. Appointed governors are expected to participate in face-to-face and teleconference board meetings, as described above. Appointed governors may be reappointed for one additional two-year term. The time commitment is approximately 5-8 hours per month, and travel for authorized T&DI business is reimbursed in accordance with ASCE policy.
General criteria
Candidates must be voting members in good standing for at least one year (1) prior to their appointment and maintain good standing throughout their term on the Board of Governors. Student members are not eligible.If you are interested in being considered for a position on the Board of Governors, please submit a resume of your experience (maximum 5 pages). Highlight your involvement in T&DI activities, as well as relevant activities in other organizations that could benefit T&DI. Include a statement of no more than 150 words explaining why you should be considered for the Board of Governors. Candidates for four-year elected positions should also indicate their willingness to stand for election if nominated and to serve if elected.
