Purpose and Background
Designing Low Impact Development (LID) features as part of a storm water system is either recommended or required in many locations. These features are much different than the typical storm water systems consisting of pipes, manholes and detention ponds that engineers have decades of experience using.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the basic principles of LID
- Explain how the 90% and 95% rainfall values differ from more traditional return period values
- Recognize the impact of storage and infiltration on LID facilities
- Recognize what pollutants can be removed by LID features and the required maintenance
- Analyze how curb opening hydraulics can significantly impact the effectiveness of many LID features
- Evaluate the impacts of typical LID features on larger return period events which are used for storm drain design
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-test assessment (true-false, multiple choice, and/or fill in the blank questions).

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs
This course is worth 0.7 CEUs /7 PDHs. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 30 days of the course.
