*This is a hands-on seminar. Participants must bring their own laptop.
*Prior experience with HEC-RAS is recommended but not required.
INSTRUCTOR:
J. Paul Rinehimer, Ph.D., M.ASCE
Purpose and Background
This intensive, workshop-oriented, one-day course provides an introduction to HEC-RAS 2025, the next generation of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS modeling software. Led by instructors from WEST Consultants, the course will familiarize participants with the redesigned interface and provide hands-on experience with the HEC-RAS 2025 modeling workflow.
The course focuses on navigating the interface, developing hydraulic models, and creating computational meshes. Participants will work through the basic modeling workflow, including developing terrain and land cover data, adding imagery, creating the conceptual model and computational mesh, defining boundary conditions and plans, running simulations, and reviewing results.
A significant portion of the course will focus on the new mesh development tools, which are significantly different from previous versions of HEC-RAS. Participants will also learn how to export meshes developed in HEC-RAS 2025 for use in HEC-RAS 7.0.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Navigate the HEC-RAS 2025 interface.
- Describe key differences between HEC-RAS 2025 and traditional HEC-RAS.
- Develop a basic HEC-RAS 2025 hydraulic model.
- Create and refine conceptual and computational meshes.
- Establish basic boundary conditions, plans, and simulations.
- Review basic model results.
- Export HEC-RAS 2025 meshes for use in HEC-RAS 7.0.
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-test assessment (true-false, multiple choice, and/or fill in the blank questions).
Who Should Attend?
This course is intended for engineers, water resource professionals, and floodplain managers interested in learning the HEC-RAS 2025 modeling environment. The course is accessible to participants relatively new to hydraulic modeling, although prior HEC-RAS experience is strongly recommended.
Outline
- Introduction to HEC-RAS 2025
- The HEC-RAS 2025 Modeling Process
- Computer Workshop: Building a Simple HEC-RAS 2025 Model
- Advanced Mesh Development
- Computer Workshop: Mesh Development
How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs
This course is worth 0.7 CEUs / 7 PDHs. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 30 days of the seminar.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
