Purpose and Background
This presentation will discuss Chapters 3–5 of MOP 161, giving the audience a focused review of common foundation types used in overhead power line and substation projects. Attendees will explore the engineering behavior and design considerations behind drilled shafts, direct embedded pole foundations, and shallow foundations. The session addresses a critical industry pain point: inconsistency in foundation design practices across utilities and engineering firms. Participants will leave with a more uniform, technically defensible approach to foundation selection, analysis, and detailing for real-world power delivery applications.
