Greetings from New York City, where summer is in full swing and the energy is high! We are in the thick of a sports summer here on the East Coast, and the Knicks NBA Championship win has this city buzzing. First title since 1973. That kind of winning energy is contagious, and I could not help but reflect on what we just pulled off in Detroit.
The first-ever T&DI co-located ICTD, APM, and Pavements specialty Conferences under one roof, was a tremendous success. About 850 attendees came together for a program that truly delivered across the board: 7 plenary sessions, 78 breakout sessions, 250+ presentations, 400+ posters, 4 workshops, 4 technical tours, 3 receptions, and an awards luncheon honoring 9outstanding recipients for their contributions to our profession and service to ASCE and T&DI. The exhibit hall and networking events rounded out an incredibly full program.
What made it special, though, was the people. Members reconnected with friends, made new ones, and reminded us all what T&DI is at its core: a close-knit community of some of the brightest minds in transportation. That is what we keep coming back for.
The Board also convened for a strategic session ahead of the conference as has been our tradition. The session focused on our strategic plan’s second year priorities, T&DI Leadership Summit planning, professional organization partnerships, and staying at the cusp of emerging issues. These conversations are shaping the direction of our institute, and we are grateful for the engaged leadership in the FY 26 T&DI Board that makes our time together the most productive.
We owe a great deal of thanks to the ASCE and T&DI staff who executed a seamless event, our MDOT partners and the steering committee for curating such a technically diverse program, our technical council and committee leaders for reviewing abstracts and papers, our members for their continued engagement, and our sponsors whose generous support made the event and social gatherings possible.
We hope this “pick your adventure” conference experience gives you a glimpse of what is coming at ASCE 2027 in Philadelphia. We cannot wait to see you there. It is my hope that T&DI will have a strong showing, so let’s make it happen - see Learn about T&DI at ASCE 2027.
