Dear UESI Members,
It is an honor to begin my term as President of the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI) at such a pivotal moment in our history. Coming off the excitement of celebrating UESI’s 10th Anniversary, we now look ahead to a new decade of growth, opportunity, and collaboration.
I am grateful for the leadership of our Immediate Past President, Victor Fernandez-Cuervo, P.E., BC.PLW, ENV SP, F.ASCE, whose dedication in 2025 helped strengthen our Institute and set the stage for the year ahead. Building on this momentum, my goal is to expand our impact, foster deeper engagement across our community, and ensure that UESI continues to serve as the leading home for utility engineers, surveyors, academics, public- and private-sector professionals, and students alike.
Aligned with our current strategic goals, we will focus on three key areas in 2026:
- Bolstering Member Engagement and Regional Visibility – Creating more opportunities for students, early-career professionals, and seasoned experts to connect, mentor, and collaborate.
- Delivering an Exceptional Pipelines 2026 Conference – Gathering in Detroit, August 1–5, to showcase innovation, strengthen industry partnerships, and expand scholarship opportunities for students and public-sector leaders.
- Expanding Our Network and Strengthening Our Community – Building collaborations with peer organizations, advancing multidisciplinary initiatives, and broadening the value UESI provides to all members.
The year ahead holds tremendous promise, and I encourage each of you to get involved—whether by joining a technical committee, contributing to our publications, or participating in one of our signature events. Together, we will continue to advance UESI’s mission and shape the future of our profession.
I look forward to working alongside you in 2026 and beyond.
Sincerely,
Samuel T. Ariaratnam, Ph.D., P.E., P.Eng, BC.PLW, F.UESI, F.CSCE, F.ISTT, EASA, FCAE, NAC, Dist.M.ASCE
