Portrait of John T. Harvey

The Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) of ASCE is pleased to announce John T. Harvey, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE, of the University of California, Davis, as the 2022 winner of the James Laurie Prize. This prize is awarded based on contributions to the advancement of transportation engineering.

John T. Harvey is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis, Director of the UC Pavement Research Center, and Director of the City and County Pavement Improvement Center. He is the Principal Investigator of research, development, and implementation projects for the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), Federal Highway Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, CalRecycle, the California Air Resources Board, and the Transportation Research Board covering various topics including pavement materials, design, asset management, cost, and the environment. Harvey was previously a Researcher and Adjunct Professor at UC Berkeley, where he earned both his Masters and Ph.D. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University. Harvey has also worked in pavement consulting in Nigeria and Texas and is the founder of the International Symposia for Life Cycle Assessment of Pavements. He is a professional civil engineer in California.
