Purpose and Background
The webinar presented jointly by the SEI Sustainability and SE 2050 technical committees will equip attendees with a foundational understanding of embodied carbon in the built environment, including how it comes into play in sustainable design practice. Through real-world case studies in both new construction and adaptive reuse, attendees will explore practical strategies for reducing embodied carbon across the project lifecycle. The webinar will include examples from material selection and structural system optimization to the reuse of existing building elements. By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to identify key intervention points where design decisions have the greatest impact on a project’s carbon footprint and will leave with a framework for applying these strategies in their own practice.
