Purpose and Background
The purpose of this webinar is to establish understanding of the key updates in ASCE24-24 from previous cycles, the reasons behind those changes, and the areas that will require particular attention moving forward. The content focuses on several important topics, including revised elevation requirements that represent a core shift in the standard, flood load alignment with ASCE 7-22 Supplement 2, updates to dry floodproofing requirements, and revisions related to materials along with the intent of the accompanying commentary. In addition to identifying what has changed, this webinar will provide context for why these changes were made and how they affect implementation. Emphasis is placed on understanding where the standard has become more conservative, where requirements have been clarified to improve consistency and interpretation, and where provisions have become stricter. By reviewing these changes collectively, stakeholders can better understand the practical implications of the updated requirements and focus on the areas most likely to impact project planning, design, review, and execution. This is the first webinar in a 3-part series on ASCE 24-24.
