MEET THE CHAIR

Hongyan Liu, Ph.D., M.ASCE

As Chair of SEI Chapter Engagement, Dr. Hongyan Liu plans to further long-term goals and strengthen community engagement, She is a Teaching Professor at Colorado School of Mines and a longtime member of SEI/ASCE. She earned her Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University with a focus in structural engineering in August 2010. Her graduate education was focused on the performance-based engineering for wood systems, with her thesis on developing generalized performance-based seismic design procedures for residential buildings. Dr. Liu also chairs the SEI Wood Education committee, is the founding faculty advisor of the SEI Graduate Student Chapter at Colorado School of Mines, and serves as the Secretary of the SEI Colorado Chapter.
