In April 2025, support from the SEI Futures Fund enabled SEI Houston, in partnership with the ASCE Houston Section, to host Explore Structural Engineering: Fields, Insights & Networking, a free program created to introduce students to the breadth of structural engineering practice. More than sixty students from regional universities attended to hear from professionals with expertise in bridge design, water related structures, buildings, retaining structures, construction engineering and inspection, and career development. Students also learned about free ASCE and SEI student membership and pathways for early career engagement with ASCE and SEI.
The momentum from this Futures Fund–supported event continued throughout 2025 and into 2026, as SEI Houston sustained a steady slate of technical, educational, and student-focused programs. Through ongoing sessions that explored current engineering topics and offered practical professional development, the chapter strengthened engagement among students and emerging professionals and built a strong sense of community within the region.
Together, the April student program and the chapter’s continued outreach demonstrate SEI Houston’s commitment to preparing the next generation of structural engineers. The SEI Futures Fund continues to make these high-impact, accessible experiences possible by supporting career exploration, strengthening technical foundations, and connecting students and early-career professionals with the broader structural engineering community.
