The University at Buffalo SEI Graduate Student Chapter made a powerful return in 2024, reestablishing its presence on campus and reconnecting students with the broader structural engineering community. With support from the SEI Futures Fund and departmental backing, the chapter formed a new leadership team, launched a website and LinkedIn presence, and engaged 19 active members throughout the 2024–2025 academic year. Their efforts have sparked renewed energy in student-professional interaction and long-term SEI involvement.
In Spring 2025, the chapter hosted three successful events funded by SEI and campus partners. Highlights included a Spring Seminar featuring Professor Arul Jayachandran on ethics in structural engineering, a student-led career design discussion, and a site visit to the New Highmark Stadium—Buffalo’s largest active construction project. These activities provided real-world insight and encouraged meaningful dialogue between students, faculty, and practicing professionals.
The chapter continues to build momentum with a planned visit to Taylor Devices, a leader in structural protection systems. By offering hands-on experiences and mentorship opportunities, the University at Buffalo SEI GSC is advancing the SEI mission—bridging education and practice while fostering the next generation of engaged structural engineers.
